API Key Help: Bring your own key - setup, costs and privacy
Start here: create a key with one provider below. Select that provider at the top of this page, select an available model, paste your key, click Save Key, then Test Key. One provider key works for its permitted models; you do not need a separate key for every model. Never enter your account password here.
Free builder, separate AI costs: manual resume/cover letter editing, templates and PDF/Word exports do not need a key. AI import, tailoring, match rechecks, title suggestions, cover letter drafting and Test Key send API requests and may use quota or incur charges. Free tiers, model availability and prices can change.
Google Gemini: sign in to Google AI Studio - API keys, create or select a project and create a key. Choose Google Gemini here and try Auto or a model available to your project. Eligible models/accounts may have a free tier; paid usage requires billing. Check Google's current pricing and data-use terms before submitting personal information.
Groq: sign in to Groq Console - API keys, choose Create API Key, name it and copy it when shown. Select Groq here, then a GPT-OSS model your account can access. Free-plan usage is rate-limited; paid plans have separate charges. A Groq key cannot be used under OpenAI even when the model name includes OpenAI.
OpenRouter: sign in to OpenRouter - API keys and create a key. Select OpenRouter here. For free usage, choose Auto - best free model or an available model marked free; quotas and availability apply. The GPT-OSS choice marked paid requires credits. Check routing, downstream provider privacy and spending controls in your OpenRouter account.
OpenAI: sign in to the OpenAI API platform - API keys, select a project and create a secret key with the permissions required for model requests. Configure API billing and usage alerts/limits where available. Select OpenAI here and a model enabled for your project. ChatGPT subscriptions do not include API usage.
Anthropic Claude: sign in to the Claude Console - API keys, create a key and configure API billing/credits. Select Anthropic Claude here and an available model. Claude chat subscriptions do not include API usage. Direct browser access exposes the key to this page's JavaScript; use only a trusted copy of the builder.
Ollama - optional, no API key: install Ollama on your own computer, download a supported model such as ollama pull gpt-oss:20b, keep Ollama running and select the same model here. Models need substantial RAM/disk space. The hosted website does not provide an Ollama server: localhost means your computer. Browser local-network permissions, HTTPS restrictions and Ollama allowed origins may prevent access; do not expose Ollama publicly or allow every website. See the official configuration guide.
Key storage and privacy: Save Key keeps your key in memory by default; refreshing or closing this page clears it. Only check Remember on this device and click Save Key if you accept persistent local storage, which is not a secure vault. Unchecking it removes the selected provider's stored copy immediately. Keys saved by older versions without this consent are removed when this version opens. Scripts running on this page can still access keys while you use them; the password field only masks the display. Do not use a shared/public computer or enter a high-privilege key. This app sends AI requests directly to the selected provider (OpenRouter may route to another provider); resume/job text used by AI leaves your device. External libraries also load on this page. Never publish a key, send it in chat or include it in screenshots.
Remove or replace a key: click Forget all keys to clear all provider keys from this page and its browser storage without removing your profile/photo/layout preferences. Or select a provider, empty the key field and click Save Key, or save a replacement. Removal applies to this website address and browser profile only. Requests already sent cannot be recalled. If a key was exposed, revoke it in the provider console immediately; clearing the browser does not revoke it.
Troubleshooting: invalid key/401 - check provider, copied key and revocation status; 403 - check permissions, region and project access; 429 - check rate limits, quota and billing; model not found - choose a supported model and check the provider's model list. A network/CORS error can mean browser requests are blocked, not that your key is invalid. Test Key verifies only the selected request, not all models or longer resumes. Do not disable browser security to bypass an error.

Margins are measured from the page edge and repeat on every exported page; sidebars retain internal padding. Line spacing stays 1.5 with no forced break before Experience. The preview is continuous; use the print preview to see PDF page boundaries. Uploaded Word templates keep their own formatting.

Use a .docx file with the placeholders below. Design it in Word first: fonts, colours, tables, headers and margins are kept. Only placeholder text is replaced. Files are processed locally, not sent to AI.

For work experience, put {#experience} on its own paragraph, then {role} | {company} | {dates}, then {#bullets}, {.} and {/bullets} on separate paragraphs. End with {/experience} on its own paragraph. Format the {.} paragraph as a bullet in Word.
Do not use ordinary resumes without placeholders, .doc files or PDFs here. Photos already placed in the template stay unchanged; uploaded profile photos are not inserted automatically. The on-screen preview and Export PDF still use the built-in template. For uploaded templates, set 1.5 line spacing and page margins in Word and remove unwanted manual page breaks; their layout is preserved rather than overridden.
